Elizabeth: So what about the veteran services now available in Columbia? Do you think they are helpful?
Kris: So I’ve more or less just completely disassociated myself from the school. After what I went through and not having the support of the administration, I have a lot of resentment towards the administrative side of the school. I basically look at myself no longer as a member of this community. I’m a customer who’s paying for a degree.
I came to the school really feeling like a sense of family with the people that I came in through orientation with, and really loved the mission of the school and the culture and all that shit. But after what I went through? For the school to essentially be like, well bullying is not real unless someone’s getting physically hurt.
It’s just like SO obnoxious.
The irony was that they convinced me to take medical leave, rather than just drop out. So that would basically reduce the school’s liability for my having dropped out because then it’s a me thing. It’s not a them thing. And because I took medical leave, I could no longer take out student loans. So therefore I wouldn’t have the money to get a lawyer and, and sue the school.
So I’m going to be feeling that anger and resentment I think, probably the rest of my life. I am probably going to respond angrily when Columbia reaches out to me for donations for the rest of my life. [end]
